If your project requires entertaining, informative, or persuasive writing — then let’s talk.
I’m sure you’ve got some questions about how we might work together to bump up your web sales, build and maintain loyal relationships with your existing customers, and generate new ones. What would you ask me?
Let’s pretend we’re sitting across the desk from each other . . . better yet, on the back deck of the boat somewhere along the Mexican coast. (Relax. Turn off the phone. I’ll go get the drinks. It’s easy to talk business in your bare feet, anchored out here in all this endless blue.)
What kinds of writing projects can you do for me?
Whether you want me to write or edit website content, articles, autoresponders or blog posts — or ghostwrite your eBook or white paper — I can help you. If you need offline collateral material (brochures, booklets, instruction manuals, and guides), just ask!
How can you understand enough about my particular business to write strong, persuasive copy about it?
Your project demands a reflection of your company’s unique voice and personality. If you’ll provide me with background material, I’ll scour the Internet, talk to your customers or clients, review your industry publications, look up your website statistics and search engine rankings — whatever it takes to establish a firm foundation for your project – before I ever write a single word.
What sets you apart from other freelance writers?
Well, I don’t know of many professional freelance writers who work barefoot from the pilothouse of their own boat. I’ve lived aboard m/v Emma Jo since 2006, spending time in Florida, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, the Bay Islands of Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. I’ve lived in England, Tahiti, Germany, Norway, Mexico, and France.
I’m at home barefoot on the beach or luxuriating in a jacuzzi at a 5-star resort. I can dine at a street vendor’s stand in shorts and flip-flops or dress to the nines for a 7-course meal at the Captain’s Table on one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
And I can find a bed, a beer, or a bathroom in 4 languages. If that doesn’t set me apart, I don’t know what would..
What can I expect when I work with you?
You’re looking for someone who’s easy to work with and highly communicative. So am I. I do my best work within client relationships that are fun, rewarding, and respectful. I thrive on projects that juice up my drive to learn, explore and adapt — real projects that open the world of possibility for you and your customers.
But you live on a boat somewhere in Mexico! How on earth can we work together effectively?
I’ve written copy for clients in San Francisco…Miami… Bangkok…Austin…and beyond; and coordinated with writing staff in Egypt, Greece, and Mexico…and never even met them face-to-face. As long as we can communicate by email, Skype, or cell phone, location isn’t an issue at all.
Can you give me samples of your work to look at?
What kind of turnaround can I expect on a typical copywriting project?
Once we agree to work together, we’ll negotiate a firm deadline based on your needs and my current client load. I’ll guarantee your project will be delivered on time, every time, just the way you want it.
Can you schedule my project immediately? I have a very tight deadline!
My ability to take on a “rush” job depends on my commitments to current clients, something I’m sure you’ll appreciate when we work together. After all, the client is the boss, and my integrity IS my business. Any last-minute or rush jobs will therefore require a surcharge on our negotiated fee to move you to the top of the list.
How much do you charge?
Each project is different, and fees are based on a thorough discussion of your needs. Once we’ve agreed on a “scope of work,” we’ll work out a project fee based on current industry rates.
What do your fees include?
My fees include our initial interview, all project research, first draft, and any revisions requested within 30 days, as well as any online meetings, telephone conversations, or correspondence necessary to complete the work (within reason).
Do we have to sign a contract?
Yes — but it’s not scary. It’s a Letter of Agreement that spells out my roles and responsibilities as well as yours, making sure we understand each other right from the start.
Do you ask for money up front?
Once we have a signed agreement, a 50% deposit will get me started on your project. I’ll invoice you 25% when I submit the first draft. And once you’ve approved the final draft, you’ll pay the remaining 25%. A convenient method of payment will be spelled out in the contract.
What if I want to make revisions?
I’d be surprised if you didn’t. After all, most copywriting projects require some give-and-take, some “tweaking” until they’re perfect. I’ll be happy to make any revisions you request within the original scope of work, up until 30 days after the final draft is submitted to you.
Who owns the copyright of any work you do for my company?
You do, of course — once our agreement is fulfilled. In other words, once you’ve approved and paid for the work — within 30 days of the final submission — all rights are yours.
